The Vortex

“The vortex within” is after a personal experience of the artist but probably many people can resonate. It portrays her personal battle with chronic insomnia and depression, a visceral representation of the emptiness and despair that can consume the soul. There were days she felt as if there was a vortex relentlessly pulling her down the abyss. This is a poignant reminder of the darkness inherent within us all, and we never know when it will swallow us or the people that we hold dear, so it’s important to acknowledge it so we can become the lifeline, to ourselves and those we love.

(*) TOCCATA VUOTO (Chạm vào hư vô) - the name for this mini-series which comprises of 4 paintings. Toccata, rooted in the Italian “Toccare”, means “to touch”, also representing a musical form for keyboard instruments, written in a free style that is characterized by full chords, rapid runs, high harmonies, and other virtuoso elements designed to show off the performer's “touch.” And Vuoto is the Italian equivalent to “Void” in English. This is the artist’s symphony, exploring various states of emptiness in our mortal life.
