JIRAPAT TATSANASOMBOON

 

 

 

Jirapat Tatsanasomboon is an award winning Thai artist who was born in 1971 and who did his Bachelor’s Degree at Chiang Mai University in 1996 and completed his Master Degree at Silapakorn University, Bangkok in 1999. Tatsanasomboon is one of Thailand’s leading artists whose works often display interactions between Thai and Western culture. International characters are depicted in a distinctive Thai setting and are often seen interacting with traditional Thai heroes and mythical figures, most of whom are characters in the Ramakien (Ramayana) epic. His art transcends the mere decorative to reveal a rich field of intercultural encounter, confrontation, reaction and interaction between a Thai subjectivity and the visitation of the West.

 

NATIONAL SOLO EXHIBITIONS

Tatsanasomboon has staged several solo exhibitions in Thailand from 2006-23, most prominently at Thavibu Gallery (now Thavibu Art Advisory), Bangkok.

MUSEUM EXHIBITION

In 2012 Tatsanasomboon exhibited at the Art Science Museum in Singapore where his works were on display together with works by Andy Warhol in the exhibition Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal, so as to show Warhol’s influence on artists in Asia.

This book was produced based on an open call for submissions, and more than 4,000 artists worldwide applied. Tatsanasomboon is the only Thai artist who was selected by museum directors and curators, and is one of the 100 artists featured in the book that address the future of painting.
